General election canvass results, by county

Caveats

  • General election only: primary election results are not included.
  • Idaho elects a President only in presidential years, a U.S. Senator only in the year each of its two Senate seats is up, and a Governor and the other statewide constitutional offices only in gubernatorial years; a metric with no observation for a year is not a gap, that office simply was not on that year's general election ballot.
  • State legislative races, county races, and judicial races (Idaho's Supreme Court, Court of Appeals and district judge elections are nonpartisan) are outside this dataset's scope of federal and statewide offices.
  • A candidate's county figure is omitted, not zero, where the source prints a blank or a dash for that county (a write-in candidate who received no county-clerk-certified votes there, for instance); a zero means the source printed a zero.
  • A candidate's party is stored exactly as the Secretary of State's canvass workbook prints it for that year, which is sometimes a full word, sometimes an abbreviation, and occasionally a candidate's own filed write-in party label; it is not standardized across years.
  • State totals are the canvass workbook's own printed state total row, not a sum of counties computed here, except for 2024, whose source file is precinct-level with no separate state-total row; that year's state figures are this puller's own sum of the county figures the same file gives.
  • In two small counties, the canvass workbook's own vote count and its own ballots-cast count for the same election disagree with each other: 1996 Caribou County's presidential candidates sum to 151 more votes than its reported ballots cast, and 2016 Clark County's to 37 more. Both figures are printed as-is; neither is corrected here.
  • 2022 general election turnout comes from a table on voteidaho.gov's own election-results page rather than the Secretary of State's canvass workbook, which unlike every other year here does not carry a county voting-statistics sheet.
  • Ballot measure names are the Secretary of State's own printed title for each measure (a joint resolution number, an initiative or proposition number, or an advisory question), which is not always the same as its official ballot title.
