Caveats
- The ratio includes teachers of students with disabilities and other special education teachers, so it is generally higher than a classroom class-size figure and NCES itself notes it differs from ratios reported at the school or district level.
- Figures are drawn from state-reported totals to the NCES Common Core of Data State Nonfiscal Survey; this table also carries fall 2020 and fall 2021 ratios and older ratio-only figures back to fall 2000, none of which are pulled here.
- The 2023 and 2024 Digest editions have not superseded this table as of retrieval; fall 2022 remains the newest year it covers.
Measures
- Student-teacher ratio (ratio): Public elementary and secondary school pupils per full-time-equivalent teacher, fall 2022.
