Caveats

  • Membership counts enrollment as of the first day of October, or the nearest prior school day; a student enrolled in two LEAs is counted in each.
  • Charter enrollment is already included in the statewide total. From 2018 on, the statewide total is the sum of every district and charter LEA's membership; for 1995 to 2017 SDE's own LEA rows differ from its printed state total, by up to 6,171 students (1996) and by under 400 from 2004 on.
  • Two LEA blocks in SDE's workbook carry no name (The Village Charter School, 2011 to 2023; Upper Carmen Public Charter, 2015 to 2023); each is named by matching its figures to SDE's charter enrollment workbook.
  • Period is the calendar year the school year begins in; period 2024 is school year 2024-25.
  • No district-to-county crosswalk exists in SDE's workbooks, so only statewide totals are published here.
  • Category is the LEA name as SDE prints it in each year, not normalized or merged across years even when an LEA was renamed.
  • Charter totals for 2012-13 (18,781.5), 2013-14 (19,366.5) and 2014-15 (19,700.38) carry a fractional count, from a school counted at partial-year FTE; kept as printed.

Where sources disagree

  • Public school enrollment, Idaho, 2022: the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) publishes 317,555. NCES Digest of Education Statistics table 208.40 (fall 2022 state enrollment, from the Common Core of Data State Nonfiscal survey) reports 317,555 for Idaho, versus the department's own fall 2022 membership count of 318,979. The department's count is the state's fall school membership; NCES's figure is the state-reported total it compiles for that survey year, which can differ slightly in scope or count date.

Caveats

  • Public school enrollment (table 203.20) is fall Common Core of Data state-reported membership, a different count and date than the State Department of Education's own fall figure.

Where sources disagree

  • Public school enrollment (NCES), Idaho, 2024: the Idaho State Department of Education publishes 318,067. NCES Digest of Education Statistics table 203.20 (fall 2024 Common Core of Data state-reported enrollment) gives 315,626 for Idaho. The State Department of Education's own fall 2024 membership count is 318,067. NCES compiles its figure from state-reported totals for its own national survey; the State Department of Education's figure is Idaho's own fall membership count and count date.

Caveats

  • Values are single-year American Community Survey (ACS) estimates; margins of error are not shown.
  • Dollar figures are in that survey year's dollars, not adjusted for inflation across years.
  • One-year estimates are not comparable to the Census Bureau's 5-year estimates for the same geography or measure, even when the years overlap.
  • There is no standard 2020 ACS 1-year release: the Census Bureau replaced it with experimental COVID-19 estimates, so 2020 is omitted here.
  • Place figures are for the incorporated city as the Census Bureau defines its boundary, not the metro area or county.
  • Which of Idaho's places clear the 65,000-person floor for 1-year estimates can vary by year.
  • A metro area is the set of counties the Office of Management and Budget assigns it in that year's delineation, so its boundary can change between years; Lewiston and Logan include counties in Washington and Utah.
  • Counties and metro areas have no 2022 homeowner or rental vacancy rate here.
