Caveats
- Retail price is revenue divided by sales, in cents per kilowatt-hour; EIA publishes it directly from 2010, and it is computed the same way for 1990 to 2009.
- The source publishes sales in megawatthours; values here are divided by 1000 to store gigawatthours.
- Total retail sales includes each geography's 'Other' sector sales (1990 to 2002); those are not broken out in the by-sector breakdown.
- The by-sector breakdown has no Transportation category before 2003; EIA replaced the Other sector with Transportation that year.
- Figures cover the Total Electric Industry (all provider types combined), not any single provider type.
- The by-sector price is EIA's own published Price cell for each sector, not a computation, in both file eras.
- Electricity used per residential customer and the average monthly residential bill are computed here from the published residential revenue, sales and customer count. EIA defines the average monthly bill the same way, in its own Table 5.a: revenue divided by customers divided by 12.
