Field reference

One row per retired generator in Idaho, from the newest Form EIA-860 release's Retired and Canceled sheet.

  • plant: Plant name as printed on Form EIA-860.
  • operator: Utility Name as printed on Form EIA-860; the form's respondent at the time of retirement.
  • county: County as printed on Form EIA-860.
  • source: Source category mapped from the generator's Technology or Energy Source 1.
  • nameplate_mw: Nameplate Capacity (MW) this generator carried before retirement.
  • retirement_year: Form EIA-860's Retirement Year.

Caveats

  • Latest EIA-860 final release only: the Retired and Canceled sheet accumulates every generator ever marked retired, so retirement_year spans many past years even though the file itself is one snapshot.
  • Only Status "RE" (an actual retirement) is kept. Status "CN" (a proposed generator cancelled before it operated) and "IP" (indefinitely postponed) are excluded: neither ever reached commercial operation, so neither is a retirement.
  • A generator whose retirement year matches a same-plant natural-gas generator's Operating Year in the same release's Operable sheet would be excluded as a fuel conversion rather than a retirement; checked for every year this dataset's puller covers (2013-2025), Idaho has no such case, so this exclusion has not yet removed a row.
  • One row per retired generator, not per plant: a plant retired in stages (Boise River Diversion's three generators, retired together in 2004) lists one row per generator.
