Plants with an Idaho-based owner
Every operating power plant in which an owner with an Idaho address holds a share, from Form EIA-860's owner file, with each plant's net generation by fuel for the year from Form EIA-923 and the owner's share of it. Idaho Power's one third of Jim Bridger in Wyoming and half of North Valmy in Nevada are the two coal plants; the rest are Boise-based developers' solar and geothermal plants in other states.

Measures
| Measure | What it measures | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Out-of-state generation owned by Idaho-based owners | For each owner with an Idaho address on Form EIA-860, the sum over its plants outside Idaho of the plant's EIA-923 net generation times the owner's share, in gigawatt-hours. An ownership share of output, not a delivery to Idaho. | gwh |
Records
One row per plant and Idaho-based owner for the year, ordered by the owner's share of the plant's net generation, largest first.
year: Data year of the EIA-860 and EIA-923 final releases.plant_id: EIA plant code.plant: Plant name as printed on Form EIA-860.plant_state: State the plant is in, two-letter postal code.owner: Owner name as printed on Form EIA-860.percent_owned: The owner's share of the plant's generators, in percent, as printed (two decimals).primary_fuels: Energy source 1 of the plant's operating generators, named (Coal, Natural gas, Solar, Geothermal), deduplicated and comma-separated.nameplate_mw: Nameplate capacity of the plant's operating generators in megawatts, all owners.plant_net_generation_mwh: The plant's net generation for the year in megawatt-hours, all fuels and all owners, from EIA-923.coal_mwh: The plant's net generation from coal fuel codes (SUB, BIT, LIG, RC, WC) in megawatt-hours.natural_gas_mwh: The plant's net generation from natural gas (NG) in megawatt-hours.owner_share_mwh: plant_net_generation_mwh times percent_owned, rounded to the megawatt-hour.owner_share_coal_mwh: coal_mwh times percent_owned, rounded to the megawatt-hour.
Caveats
- An owner's share of a plant's output is that share times the plant's net generation, arithmetic on two published figures; it is not a record of where the electricity was delivered, and a utility can sell its share into the market or buy more than it owns.
- The selection is Form EIA-860's own Owner State field. It admits Idaho Power and Boise-based developers whose plants in California, New Mexico, Montana, Utah and Oregon sell to buyers in those states; it excludes PacifiCorp (Portland), whose Rocky Mountain Power division serves eastern Idaho from a six-state system, and Avista (Spokane), which serves northern Idaho.
- The owner file lists only generators with more than one owner or an owner other than the operator, so a utility's wholly owned plants, including all of Idaho Power's Idaho hydroelectric plants, are not in it.
- Only generators marked operating (status OP, SB or OS) are kept. Idaho Power's 10 percent of Boardman, Oregon, retired in 2020, and plants under construction are excluded because they generated nothing in the year.
- Purchased power (power-purchase agreements, market buys, federal hydropower marketed by the Bonneville Power Administration) is not in either form, so these rows are a floor on out-of-state supply, not the whole of it.
- Both source zips exceed 20 MB; data/raw/ holds only the owner rows with Owner State ID and the plant, generator and generation rows for those plants, as CSV.
Where sources disagree
- Out-of-state generation owned by Idaho-based owners, Idaho, 2024: idacorp publishes 2,474. Idaho Power's ownership shares of Jim Bridger and North Valmy times those plants' EIA-923 net generation give 3,184 GWh for 2024, while IDACORP's 10-K reports 2,474 GWh from the jointly owned thermal plants that year (idacorp-10k-power-supply). An ownership share is an entitlement, not what was taken: the 10-K says Idaho Power ended its participation in coal-fired operations at North Valmy unit 1 in December 2019 and unit 2 in December 2025, while EIA-860 still lists its 50 percent of both units, and joint owners dispatch and trade their shares. Both figures are kept; the utility's is the account of what it supplied.
