Measures
| Measure | What it measures | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Gross domestic product | All-industry gross domestic product in current dollars (not adjusted for inflation), for the nation and each state. | usd millions |
| Gross domestic product by industry | Current-dollar gross domestic product by 2-digit NAICS sector (plus government), for Idaho and the nation only. | usd millions |
Caveats
- Values are millions of current dollars (not adjusted for inflation); industry detail follows the 2017 North American Industry Classification System (NAICS).
- A cell coded (D) (not shown, to avoid disclosing a single business's data; folded into a higher-level total), (L) (less than $50,000), or (NA) (not available) is omitted from the observations, never recorded as zero.
- The source ZIP's footnote files state only 'Last updated: April 9, 2026-- new statistics for 2025', with no per-row preliminary or revised flag; every observation here is recorded as status final. 2025 is this file's newest published vintage and may be revised in a future BEA release.
- This ZIP vintage carries SAGDP2 (used here) through 2025, but the finer industry-detail tables SAGDP3-SAGDP7 only through 2024; this dataset uses only SAGDP1 (inspected, contributes no observations) and SAGDP2.
- SAGDP1, the state summary table, was checked for a per-capita real GDP line; as of this pull it has 8 lines (real GDP, its chain-type quantity index, current-dollar GDP, compensation, gross operating surplus, and taxes/subsidies detail) and none is per-capita, so economy.real_gdp_per_capita is not published here.
- economy.gdp_by_industry uses the 19 two-digit-NAICS sector lines (agriculture; mining; utilities; construction; manufacturing; wholesale trade; retail trade; transportation and warehousing; information; finance and insurance; real estate and rental and leasing; professional/scientific/technical services; management of companies; administrative/support/waste management services; educational services; health care and social assistance; arts/entertainment/recreation; accommodation and food services; other services) plus Government and government enterprises. Nested sub-sector lines (e.g. Farms under agriculture; durable/nondurable goods manufacturing) and the Private industries subtotal are excluded so that summing every category does not double-count.
- BEA's own multi-state region aggregates (New England, Mideast, Great Lakes, Plains, Southeast, Southwest, Rocky Mountain, Far West) appear in the source file but are not geographies this site tracks and are not included.
- District of Columbia is included under economy.gdp as a state-type geography, per data/geographies.json.
