Caveats
- Each figure is a rolling 12-month total ending in the named month, not a count for that single month.
- These are provisional counts based on death certificates that may not yet be complete; NCHS also publishes a model-based predicted value that adjusts for investigations still pending, and this dataset carries only the reported count, not that estimate.
- A month with no figure is below NCHS's reporting threshold and suppressed, not zero; for Idaho this leaves most months for heroin and methadone unreported.
- The drug categories overlap by the ICD-10 codes they cover and do not add up to the overdose death total; a death coded to heroin, for example, is also counted under the broader opioid category.
- Deaths from all causes are shown here as the context NCHS publishes alongside overdose deaths, not as a comparable series in its own right.
Where sources disagree
- Deaths from all causes, 12 months ending, Idaho, 2024-12: the Census Bureau's population estimates publishes 16,782. This dataset's figure (16,785) is provisional deaths from all causes recorded on Idaho death certificates in the 12 months ending December 2024, counted by the National Center for Health Statistics. The Census Bureau's deaths component of population change for 2024, which this site publishes as population.deaths on /population/births-deaths/, covers the 12 months ending June 30, 2024 and is a modelled input to a population estimate rather than a certificate count. The two run over different twelve-month windows and are produced for different purposes.
